Life drawing series with RF. Alvarez
Lovers is a series of monthly figure drawing sessions taught by artist RF. Alvarez, exploring the human form through light, structure, and storytelling – with a mezcal tasting to accompany.
Each two-hour candlelit studio session will follow a classic academic structure:
1-minute gesture drawings to warm up
5-minute studies focusing on gesture, value, anatomy, and rhythm
A final 20-minute sustained pose for deeper observation
After the drawing sessions, guests are encouraged to linger and discuss their experience with others
Guests are provided all art-making materials as well as a selection of three mezcals curated by Alvarez to match the evening’s themes. Artists of all levels welcome.
An intimate, immersive evening of art making and mezcal tasting.
The Sessions
Sessions are built around a central theme determining model choice, artistic focus, and mezcal selection. Bookings are available one month before, on a first-come-first-serve basis.
8-10pm
Working from a single muscular model, artists will explore the architecture of the body through gesture, proportion, and light. Poses emphasize classical balance and physical presence, offering an opportunity to study how mass, rhythm, and anatomy come together to form the human figure.
Available March 30th
A nod to the “first couple of art history,” we will explore the relationship between two bodies that carry varying art historical contexts. The models will first pose separately, before coming together in a final joined pose, allowing artists to study differences in proportion, weight, and movement between the two forms.
Available April 21
Apollo & Dionysus brings two male figures into conversation. Models will alternate between a poised, harmonious presence and a more expressive and dynamic energy — allowing artists to study the struggle and balance of competition and camaraderie embedded in the male form.
Available May 25th
Hesperides - nymphs of the evening garden - serve as inspiration for this session, which introduces a group composition with three female models arranged in shifting configurations. This session places special emphasis on shadow play and the interaction of light across multiple figures, inviting artists to observe how overlapping forms create depth, rhythm, and atmosphere within a shared composition
Available June 30th
Working from a mature model, artists will explore how time, gravity, and experience shape the body. The session offers a contrast to the youthful forms of earlier classes, revealing the expressive character and sculptural presence found in the aging form.
